Joseph Steward's Museum of Natural and Other Curiosities
This cabinet of curiosities is housed in the historic old statehouse of the most boring city in the world: Hartford, Connecticut (also known as the insurance capital of the world.) Created by Deacon Joseph Steward in 1797, this collection includes such trivial historic artifacts as a button worn by George Washington himself. The spirit of this collection is similar to Christian C. Sandersons Museum, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which boasts to include melted ice from the North Pole and sand exhumed during the Panama canal dig. You can also find within this collection a two-headed calf; a specimen of taxidermy as exotic as one you could find at the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, or Niagara Falls museum, Canada. If you have your own specimens and you believe they are of museum quality and belong in a Cabinet of Curiosities for exhibition, please send us an image and description of your collectible for inclusion in our on-line museum Web Wundekammer. |
